The $66 Billion Financing Challenge in Africa’s Healthcare Supply Chain

According to a recent report by Brookings, Africa’s healthcare value chain is projected to hit a high of $259 billion by 2030, accounting for nearly 14% of global health and well-being business opportunities. Yet, a financing gap of $66 billion per year exists in the healthcare supply chain, a discrepancy that the Covid-19 pandemic further exacerbated. This funding shortfall affects pharmacies, chemists, and other healthcare institutions, resulting in struggles to procure sufficient medical supplies and equipment to meet patient and retailer needs.

Pezesha’s Role in Revolutionizing Healthcare Financing

In response to this challenge, Pezesha is providing a game-changing solution: flexible and affordable healthcare financing through embedded finance services. Collaborating with vital players in the healthcare supply chain, including Ilara Health and Dawapay in Kenya and Rocket Health in Uganda, Pezesha empowers healthcare facilities to access on-demand, affordable financing.

Case Study: Ilara Health and Pezesha Partnership Boosts Medical Supply Acquisition

A prime example of Pezesha’s work is the partnership with Ilara Health. Pezesha provides financing for pharmacies and chemists purchasing medical supplies and equipment from Ilara Health. This collaboration allows healthcare facilities to acquire supplies on credit and repay Pezesha within a manageable loan period at a reasonable interest rate. More than 30 facilities working with Ilara Health have benefited from this initiative. Edith Adhiambo, Growth Manager at Ilara Health, lauds this partnership, which has empowered pharmacies to meet operational demands effectively.

Added Value from Pezesha’s Embedded Finance Solution

Pezesha’s affordable embedded finance solution offers value in multiple ways, including:

  1. Access to affordable working capital for pharmacies and chemists.
  2.  Improved customer retention and acquisition for medical suppliers.
  3.  Seamless and instant credit for inventory liquidity through API integrations.

The Seamless Process: How Pezesha Facilitates Healthcare Financing

Accessing Pezesha’s financing solution is simple, fast, and seamless. Healthcare facilities apply for credit, Pezesha scores the facility and establishes their loan limit. Pezesha then disburses credit to the medicine supplier based on the invoice’s value for the medicine supply. Finally, the healthcare facility receives the medical supplies and repays the loan to Pezesha on the agreed-upon date.

Pezesha’s innovative approach seeks to alleviate the significant challenge of access to affordable financing in the healthcare supply chain, a problem SMEs face in the sector. Their role is crucial in supporting the entire value chain of pharmacies, chemists, and healthcare facilities.
